| Family Relocation Services
As a Relocation Services Company - we’re finding a shift in the focus of our services today. A great deal of our corporate clients are requesting more and more of our services to be directed at the needs of the family. The traditional family unit has evolved from the family of “Father Knows Best” with a husband who works, a wife at home and respectful, perfect children - to the “family” of the 21st century which represents single-parents, multi-generational households, domestic partnerships, and dual-career families with or without children – where the working spouse’s income is on average 35% of the family income. And, with a relocation, there’s a strong likelihood that the spouse’s career and income stream will be affected by the relocation. Many of the Cos we speak with are recognizing that their ability to compete for top talent and to protect their return on investment – is tied to providing viable support – not only to their transferees/assignees – but for each dependent family member as well. Spouse or partner employment assistance, employee assistance programs, work/life referral services, elder care, child care, settling-in assistance, and concierge services – not to mention the more traditional destination services – are additional labels for provisions that are designed to provide counseling for employees, the family, spouse/domestic partners, dependent adults, and children. Many assignment policies note additional spouse/partner assistance offerings under the label of “continuing education allowance” in addition to the traditional school search, home finding assistance, and the newer trend of employment assistance provisions. As a member of Worldwide ERC (an international relocation org), we understand that more than 40% of employers offer some level of formalized family transition assistance and the benchmark increases to as high as 82% if expanded to include the additional provisions just noted. |
